What is in your garden and who do you need to call.

I wanted to give you a little insight into honey bees and wasps you may find in and around your garden this year. This blog is to give you a little insight into honey bees and wasps you may find in and around your garden this year. There are pictures to illustrate what you are looking for and when to call a pest controller.
Before we start I would like to share with you why I am writing this blog, because many controllers receive calls for wasps when actually they are honey bees. They do look similar, however, there are distinct features, read on...
Tip #1 - Wasps are brighter than honey bees
This is a distinct characteristic between identifying a wasp and a honey bee. Wasps are bright yellow, whereas honey bees are a honey colour and hairy.

Tip #2 - Each have their place of location
Before you call someone, look at where the insect is located. While both species can be found in all places. Wasps are usually in your cavity walls and fascia, while honey bees tend to be located in chimneys and lofts... just like bumble bees.

Tip #3 - Both are important for the ecology of the environment
These days there is more premise to save the honey bees. However, no bee species are protected. In most cases solitary bees including honey and bumble bees, pesticide is used as a last resort, especially if they pose a risk to health. All being the same, I would always suggest calling a local beekeeper for honey bees.

Tip #4 - Hornets?
Hornets are generally mixed up with wasps, yet... hornets are much bigger and can vary in colour depending on variety.

What next?
So, what do you do when you see honey bees? Well, call your local beekeeper. But, if you see wasps, call your friendly local pest controller: Call NOW if you have a problem in your home or garden.
